What Is PM&R?

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is the specialty of medicine that diagnoses and treats diseases and conditions that cause impairment, disability, and handicap.

Physicians who specialize in PM&R are called physiatrists.  After medical school, physiatrists then complete an internship and residency of four years duration that prepares them for this area of practice.

In PM&R, we attend to the "whole person", recognizing that biological, social, and psychological components determine ability and contribute to well-being and health.
